Oscar Night

On Wednesday evening BizX Magazine held it’s eighth annual “Oscar Night“, one of the largest events of the year in Windsor. BizX is the sister publication to Crains Detroit Business in that it reports on the economy and small business activity in Windsor and the surrounding communities. Oscar Night is called that because it is a little bit like Hollywood.

Debra Jones, owner and publisher, has her editors nominate small business’s for their achievments through out the year and then we, the customers, get to vote on who should be the best. There are several catagories ranging from best pet grooming to best Italian restaurant to best place to get picked up in. This year was the first year that BizX picked four catagories for the D’. I am proud to say that Cobo Joes was the recipient for “Best Sports Bar in the Zone.” That translates to best Red Wings bar.

Held at the Capitol Theater, it was alot of fun. You arrive in limo’s and walk up the red carpet just like the real event for excellence in film. Got to meet so many great business owners and their crews. What some people don’t understand is that Detroit needs Windsor. We are linked economically and in our standard of living. Our border is the most traveled in North America and generates about $99 billion dollars a year just in truck frieght.

My point is this. Without our Canadian customers and friends at Cobo Joes, we can not succeed and, on a greater scale, without the city of Windsor, it’s economic base and it’s passionate citizens, Detroit can not succeed either.
