Detroit’s Winter Blast
The Free Press reported today that the Detroit Winter Blast will return in 2007 and run from February 9th to the 11th. This year during SBXL it drew 1.2 million people They are hoping for half that next year. The Blast’ will include the return of the 200 ft. snow slide, ice sculptures, free ice skating and Taste of Detroit with food from about 20 different restaurants. I am looking forward to this event because when Pittsburgh was in town I didn’t have the chance to get down there.
This is the true test of Detroit’s “rebirth”, if without a major event like the Super Bowl, whether or not people show up downtown.
I’ll be there. =)
I still don’t understand why they changed it from the “Motown Winter Blast” to “Detroit Winter Blast”. I personally thought the “Motown” sounded better.
I’ll be there. Last year, on the Thursday before Superbowl, I tried to get on the slide only to be refused because I exceeded the 4″ height limit. There was only a limitation because the weather was so warm. I should have gone the next day . . . . Can’t wait for this year.
