Detroit Film Theater

The Detroit Film Theater has just completed a project where all 1,107 carved wooden seats were restored to their former beauty with new stuffing and fabric. This rehab’ was at the cost of some $500,000. So on these cold, wintery evenings, if you have the time, go check out the DFT. It is located inside the Detroit Institute of Arts at 5200 Woodward.

You won’t be watching any movies “now playing.” The theater presents internationally aclaimed or rare and historic movies. The best-attended single event was the 1980 showing of twelve 3D films. Chect out what’s playing now at this magnificent theater. Tickets are only $5 for DIA memebers, students and seniors. $7.50 for everyone else.

I cannot wait to see the new seats. Many of them were sponsored by individual donors and their names will appear on the nameplates on the seats themselves. They are still allowing you to sponsor seats, so it is not too late.
