Christian Coffeehouses
Koinonia Cafe is adjacent to the Central Alliance Church in Midtown Detroit at the corner of Second Avenue and Hancock. It was not apparent that the public could just walk in, but after some hesitation I opened the grand doors to find myself in the Hall of a grand, beautiful home that has been converted into a coffee house/community center. The Café is open every Thursday from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. and features Christian artists. Being Hindu, I always wonder if it is blasphemous to step foot into this type of establishment, then realize that our temples would never turn anyone away. It is interesting to learn that there is at least a couple such Christian Coffeehouses in Detroit. I would have otherwise never known, but a friend Grande has just released a CD entitled “Walk With Me”, which is a treat regardless of whether or not you normally listen to Christian rock as the man can sing. While I would never think to have social establishments distinguished by religion, there is a certain comfort in being able to hang out in an establishment where the majority of patrons form your peer group and support your lifestyle. If anyone knows of a Hindu coffeehouse, please fill me in.
thanks Mollika!!!
btw, the coffeehouse starts at 8 on Thursdays…
