Paradise Valley

A while ago I brought to your attention that the Detroit Economic Growth Corp, headed by George Jackson’s capable hands, was interested in developing Harmony Park as a restaurant/bar/jazz club area that was similar to Paradise Valley previously located where the ball parks are now. (think 606 Horseshoe Club) Paradise Valley was part of the Black Bottom neighborhood and, in it’s day, was thee place for blacks and whites alike to jam to the likes of Cab Calloway and Sammy Davis Jr.

A park to honor the city’s former Paradise Valley area was supposed to open this year but more than $2 million is still needed and really doesn’t even have a design in place yet. The Ford family has pledged $100,000 for the project and donated almost an acre for the park bounded by Madison, Beacon, St. Antoine and an alley near Ford Field. My point being that the City administraters should stop dragging their feet on this and get this Memorial Park finished. We can never have enough parks in the D’.
