Green Day

St. Patricks Day 2007 has arrived at last and this year it’s on the best day of the week, Saturday. This means that more beer will be consumed today than any other day in the last seven years. In terms you can understand, the Old Shillelagh goes through about 300 barrels alone. At any rate here’s some trivia you can load up on to impress your pals while you consume all that Guinness. (First made in 1759 and properly poured in stages but, to act like you know what you are doing and you don’t want to wait, ask for a “single pull.“)

The largest St. Patricks Day parade in in New York and is the longest running parade in the world beginning in 1762. Nearly 3 million people watch it and 150,000 march in it.
Four leaf clovers are rare and found only in about one in 10,000 three leafs. The world record is 14 leafs and they are nearly nonexistent.
Leprechauns don’t guard gold, they make shoes for the other fairies.
There are about 34 million Irish Americans in the U.S.
The American Heart Association declared three years ago that drinking Guinness helps reduce blood clots the same as aspirin does.

That’s enough already. It’s time for me to put on my green sweater and head out into the fray. Oh, one more thing. . . there are more DUI arrests on this day than any other. Cabs are much, much cheaper.
