To Do List for the Weekend

Detroit’s own Anita Baker is at the Music Hall tonight for the largest benefit concert of the year. It is called “Cars & Stars and the charity goes towards the Hall’s programs in jazz, theater and dance. Tickets include a black tie party after the concert at the Detroit Athletic Club.

If you’re not into the DAC, hop in your car and head on over to Hamtramck on Saturday for the first annual Hamtramck Hustle. If you like vintage automobiles, this event is for you. It’s a car show featuring only pre-1968 homebuilt hot rods and other custom wheels. Motorcycles older than 75′ are also included. If you want to enter your ride, registration is between 10 a.m. and noon and costs $20. Check out the after party at the Painted Lady with punk and rockabilly bands. By the way, this is a free event and it will be held at Jos. Campau at Dan Street.

After brunch on Sunday, drop in at the MGM Casino. The very talented and local jazz singe Jesse Palter and her trio is performing at 3:30 p.m. She was on her “A” game last night at Cliff Bells and played to a very warm crowd. As for double R, I’ll be in left field with SRO tickets at Comerica on what looks to be a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
