Biking the D’
My wasn’t it a gorgeous day yesterday in the D’? What is becoming my daily bike ride is different every day. Monday afternoon I took off from Grand Circus Park and rode down Washington Ave heading for Atwater behind Cobo Center to begin the joyous ride along the Riverwalk. Pumped my way past the Detroit Princess and on down to Hart Plaza and the RenCen. There is a really cool fountain with “pipes” of water jetting out of the ground through holes in the walkway just behind the Winter Garden entrance.
Took a little break there to watch some highschool students put on an impromtu performance of song and dance right there in the fountain. Very talented and very refreshing to see young people involved with something so creative. Talked with people over the singing and they all said the same thing. Detroit is really coming back. Some were spending their first visit in years and they all loved the Riverwalk
Getting back on the bike, I headed down the path to the foot of Rivard where it ends but , if you get back on Atwater, you can continue to TriCentenial State Park. This new addition has a marina and park. Great places to picnic under huge willow trees and fish along the shore. Riverwalk, when it’s done will bring you all the way.
Returning in the oppisite direction, the Riverwalk reminded me of Mallory Square in Key West. Just a beautiful day for a ride. People of all ethnic backrounds riding, roller blading, jogging and just walking hand in hand all along the river front. I also noticed security on hand and I also noticed that they don’t allow homeless to rummage through the trash recepticles or pan handle. Nice! If you get the chance, check out this great addition to the D’ this weekend. It is well worth it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for bike stores in the city?
i can think of a good one but it’s not actually in the city limits. shoot me an e-mail and i’ll give you the details, i may even be able to get you a little discount.
