My baby sister just moved in with me and she’s looking to bartend in the city. We went around bar hopping last week handing out resumes and it was a very rewarding experience. I never realized exactly how rich the Detroit nightlife is. I definitely have my favourite haunts around the city, but I have discovered so many more beautiful new lounges. Beauty and class abound in the décor and atmosphere of Pulse, the Woodward, Centaur, and Deluxe. However, it seems like some places have some very contradictory atmospheres as well. Proof has all the makings of a martini lounge, yet all the clientele was spillover from the baseball game. I suppose proximity to the field may have something to do with it. Either way, I am very happy to have expanded my choices for nighttime entertainment.

The Dally in the Alley was held this past weekend in midtown. I absolutely love this festival and how it brings together the new students at Wayne State, young families from the city, and creative types from all over to celebrate the art, culture, institutions, and spirit of the city. The grills were fired up, the beverages flowing, the selection of Detroit clothing was dangerous, and there is nothing quite like dancing in the streets. Parking was a hassle and a half as usual but quite worth it. The downpour right at midnight was a great conclusion to the night packing all the surrounding bars and restaurants. I just wish the festival was a day longer.

I am laughing out loud right now. (LOL). Tigers, our boys of the summer down 4-1, bottom of the ninth, two outs, after a Toronto double play and they come back! Tigers win 5-4. Unbelievable! Is this the game that will take them to the playoffs? Maybe, hopefully! I apologize for not typing more as often as I did. I am kind of a guest writer now but I have to say this night, THIS NIGHT, I am so proud to be a COD.

Wireless internet adds yet another solitary activity which brings groups of individuals together in coffee shops. I am now writing from the Signature Market cafe at the Riverfront Towers. While I do love the convenience of the quaint little delicatessen and gourmet market, it is a pity that they only allow an hour of free internet. You then have to wait another two before you can log on again. What is your favourite wi-fi spot in the city?

the Detroit Historical Museum was closed for the past few weeks to tidy things up and set up some new exhibits and whatnot but are re-opening September 8th and it’s FREE to get in all day. if you’re headed downtown for the Tigers game leave yourself enough time to check it out, they’ve got a new sports display set up, too. it’s pretty cool to read about some of the buildings that were built in the 1920s then drive by them on the way home.
