Mayor speaks: reactions

I didn’t think it was possible, but I think I am more angry at the mayor having seen his sorry excuse for a press conference than I was when he was in hiding for a week.
I’m sorry, but I didn’t want to hear how hard it has been for his family or for him. I wanted an apology to the citizens of Detroit and I wanted him to resign. From what I heard and saw during his 10 or 15 minute talk, I got neither. Instead, I got him telling me how much he loves his wife (great way of showing it) and how sorry he is to her, and then I got his wife saying her family doesn’t deserve to be in the spotlight with a matter like this. I’m sorry, but shouldn’t she be blaming the man who put her into this spot to begin with — the mayor himself — rather than the citizens of Detroit or the media? I am simply disgusted that after he wasted $9 million of taxpayers’ money on the whistle blower lawsuit because his ego thought he could beat it that he is going to do this again with this text message perjury investigation. Step up, Mr. Mayor, and take responsibility for your actions. For once, put the citizens of Detroit in front of your own needs.
And another thing — I’d love to know if the taxpayers are paying for Mr. Kilpatrick’s special PR people (Bob Berg) to help him through this difficult time (read: orchestrate speeches like the sorry one this evening). If anyone knows the answer to this, please speak up.
