Anywho, with cool temperatures and more snow expected Friday night it’ll be a good time for sure. With dog sleds, a giant snow slide and ice skating along with all the other slightly warmer activities like shopping, eating and rocking there’s no excuse to stay home and be miserable.

(not to mention that escalators/elevators are usually jammed full of people while the stairs an nice and roomy.) well, the American Lung Association is holding their second annual fund raiser called Climb Detroit 2 at the Marriott Hotel Renaissance Center on Sunday, February 24th to raise awareness as well as money. last years event had over 300 people and they’re hoping for more this year. for more info check them out here.

although it would be nice to keep this as a place to discuss all the positive things going on in the city of Detroit i don’t think we can sit on our hands and ignore the elephant in the room. it’ has made national news as another black eye for the city and it’s got everyone talking so why not here? of course i’m speaking of the most recent hot water our fearless leader has found himself in. let me start by stating that i have never been a fan of his and i declared that if he was elected to a second term that i would leave the city and i did. i only moved up the road a few miles (East English Village to Grosse Pointe) and i moved before selling my old house (which is still for sale after almost two years) but i just couldn’t handle paying for him anymore. (on a side note that infamous Navigator that got him in so much trouble years ago was purchased at the dealership which is just a couple hundred yards away from my old house) as a matter of fact i first stumbled upon this site while searching for info on these stickers that seemed to be showing up everywhere just before the last election. so, i would like to see some responses from people that voted him in for round two and maybe tell me what you saw in him that maybe i am missing and if you voted for him then…are you regretting it or are you still on board? and please remember, this is not a black/white, city/suburbs thing. what goes on in Detroit City hall can effect the whole Detroit metro area. now i’ll turn it over to all of you:

the fact that you have taken the time to read, comment and/or post on this blog (i think) means you have some sort of pride or concern for the city of Detroit so here’s what i propose: each one of you that reads this should take some of those precious few remaining ” last minute dollars” and get a gift that directly supports this area that we live in. buy someone a product that is based locally like a new Carhartt jacket or for you hotshots out there i’m sure you know someone that wouldn’t mind finding a new Corvette under the tree. since we all know someone who eats occasionally (some more than others) gift cards for local, independent restaurants are a swell idea or maybe just pay more attention to the place you’re shopping and make sure it’s not a giant retail chain that really doesn’t need your thirty bucks to help pay the phone bill. supporting local business really does make a difference and i think we all forget that sometimes, i try my hardest to direct my money very specifically but even i stray once in a while…i’ll admit that i occasionally gas up the ol’ Daewoo at the Mobil station and run over to the Outback steakhouse for a Bloomin’ Onion!
