20% WTF?

A bit of a rant for my American Friends. So far preliminary reports show a voter turnout of around 20% in the City of Detroit. That is freaking pathetic.

You’ll have people line up to head to the middle east to fight “terrorists” but you can’t take 10 minutes out of your day to vote.

If you didn’t vote, you need to give your head a shake. It’s your duty.

So dead on… I don’t understand why Americans don’t vote. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain. It takes 10 mins, maybe 30 mins but the outcome affects every aspect of your life.

Not just Americans, the turn-out is equally as bad in Canada too… On average our National Elections have a turnout in the 40% range…

The 40% turnout in Canada is way better than the 20-30% voting in the states. I don’t want to marginalize, but Americans take almost everything for granted, especially primary elections.
People just don’t want to do anything that they aren’t force to do, even if it is for their benefit. One just thinks, oh I’m only one vote out thousands or millions, what difference can I make? That is a pathetic attitude, I’m too depressed to continue, I’m sorry.
