Something’s cookin’ in Mexicantown…

And it’s not just the amazing food.

A $17 million project in Mexicantown will bring an International Welcome Center (with retail/office space), a Mercado (with 20 retail kiosks) and a Plaza for festivals and community events. The Mercado will primarily host graduates of an entrepreneurial training program.

One of the best aspects of this development is the encouragement of entrepreneurs and first-time business owners. It’s a smart step for a great area — attracting new businesses, retaining and fostering their growth. It’s a long-term vision, which is so refreshing compared to the usual short-term “band-aids” you’ll see in Detroit planning and development.
