DMB coming to The Joe!

Two years ago, I saw the best concert I have ever seen in my life. It was Dave Matthews Band, and it was at The Palace. Neil Young came out half-way into the show as a surprise guest, and if that wasn’t enough to have me screaming non-stop for five minutes straight, the duo went on to play a 14- or 15-minute rendition of “All Along the Watchtower”. I just kept saying, Is this for real?!

I have seen Dave eight times – both in MI and in other states – and never grow tired of him or his eclectic band. I do have to admit, though – as much as I enjoy the band, I was getting a little ticked off that the South African-native hadn’t made a stop in the Detroit area this year.

I am happy to report, however, that DMB will be coming to Detroit this year!

Tickets are not on sale yet, but that announcement should be made any day now. The show is set for December 3, 2005, at Joe Louis Arena.

And I’m glad to hear he’s coming downtown again! I used to see him 1-3 times a summer from 98-2002, but it started to get too expensive and I didn’t have the time. He always puts on a good show and maybe this is just the excuse to go again.

Did anyone go to the Comerica Park show in 2000?

I was there for the CoPa shows in 2000 and 2001. The one in 2000 was my first concert.

    Those were great shows.

I saw both of his shows at Comerica, as well, but didn’t like them as much as I like seeing him at an enclosed venue. Like I said, The Palace show was amazing, and I saw him three or four years ago in Illinois at an enclosed stadium, and enjoyed that more than his Comerica shows. I just felt that the stage placement (at Comerica) was too far away – I was in great seats in the Tiger’s Den, but felt that a lot of the experience got lost due to the distance between my seats and the stage.

I am really excited that he is coming downtown, too. I have seen him at Pine Knob, and it’s a good show, but it is just SO FAR AWAY to drive there and back. Plus you get that stage/lawn distance thing again, unless you pay more for pavilion seats, which kind of defeats the purpose of Pine Knob in my book : )

Hopefully The Joe will prove to be the best of both worlds : )
