Have You Been to The Avalon Bakery? Why Not?!

There’s something about really good bread that satisfies all of the senses. The way it crunches when your fingers rip through its crust, and your nostrils detect the hint of yeast rising up from the break. The Avalon (Avalon International Breads) at 422 W. Willis Street has done a wonderful job in both creating not only a diverse selection of wonderful breads and pastries, but presenting them in an environment that whispers: “I’m clean, I’m organic, I’m hip”


I’ve attached a good article from the Metrotimes (see above) which talks about the background of the shop. My personal favorite is the Fishtail Brioche (warm, buttery, with pecans and lots of brown sugar….) OH okay, twist my arm, my OTHER favorite is the nutty chocolate bar/brownie which they don’t make all of the time. This is a GOOD thing else I’d be as big as a Lincoln Continental!

    i live on the same block as avalon… a wonderful place!!! and yes, the Fishtail Brioche is fantastic!!!
