Your new breakfast spot. SERIOUSLY.

My wife and I had just purchased our first home – right on Woodward in downtown Detroit. We were all excited about all the new things to do and places to eat. Of course, we became less excited as we found the honest lack of such places back then, save a few. We always knew what SHOULD be downtown – a place with big city style, a cross-racial intelligence, open mornings, supergood food, and service to bring you back.

And so, we waited.

We found it. Number one with a bullet: Detroit’s Breakfast House & Grill

(more below the fold)

Now, I’ve been lucky enough to have traveled fairly extensively, to several continents and to almost all 50 states. I’ve dined in some great places, and countless mediocre ones. Some had fantastic food, others had great service.

I kid you not: Detroit’s Breakfast House & Grill was the best combo of the two I’ve ever experienced.

Was it my mood? The joyous morning with my family? Could be. I think it was more about the unreal Eggs Benedict with a sweet & spicy turkey sausage that I can’t stop thinking about. I think it was more about the single best wait staff I’ve ever seen (when you go, ask for Camella as your server). The busboys were unbelievably pleasant, too. My family just LOVED the meal, and I made sure the General Manager knew it. He was wonderfully helpful and pleasant, and thrilled to have our business.

I could write another few paragraphs, to be honest. Just do yourself a favor, if you haven’t been yet: go. Experience this place. The combo of food and service and decor is EXACTLY what this city needs.

Hell, I could have told you that 6 years ago. ;-)

What’s with Detroiters and their insatiable need for 24 hour breakfast joints?

Actually, we tend to eat those “full breakfasts” late at night… (waffles and such).

Cold Pizza is better for breakfast…
