Dodgeball in Detroit
I have been using this neat online service for almost a year now, but for some reason Detroit doesn’t want to jump on it like the other metro cities. Dodgeball.com is a text messaging service for your cell. It allows you to add your favorite venues to their database, create a profile and add your friends. Then next time you’re at, say Cass Cafe, you send a text to dodgeball saying “@cass cafe” and all your friends will get a message giving out your location. Say someone doesn’t know where Cass Cafe is. They text “Cass Cafe?” and will be replied to with directions. Theres a better description at the website.
Every month I get the Dodgeball Digest with all the site’s stats and get a bit frustrated. Detroit is ranked 15 out of 22 cites that have the service, accounting for less than 1% of the dodgeball population. Even Atlanta is ranked 10th. I think we can move up the ranks. Its a great way to promote Detroit venues and pursuade others to join you. Just think, one day you could be having a drink at the Majestic and be greeted by a fellow Metroblogger. If you sign up, be sure to add me, johnnydet.
Just to make things clear: I am in no way endorsed by Dodgeball.com. I just really like the service and wish more people would join.
Oooh, nice. Somehow should somehow connect this to Upcoming.org… interestingly, when I searched for Detroit, I came up with Motor City Bar in NYC (a Detroit-themed bar).
