Open thread

We are going to steal an idea from some of the other sites and offer an open thread. This your chance to talk about whatever Metro Detroit topic is on your mind.

Eminem’s wedding? Real World is it happening? Super Bowl? NAIAS?

Whatever you want, the floor is yours…

I know this is a bad topic-starter, but Someone’s really gotta get a picture of that Shady Records welcoming us to Detroit billboard.

Okay, I got a topic. AT there is a sign featured that says “demolition means progress”. So, what do you guys think about such a slogan. I’ll share what I think laTER.

i think the statement is true… i think it’s safe to say that there has been more developmental progress in the city in the past couple years than there has in decades… it would be untrue to say that that development hasn’t been aided by or can be attributed to demolition…

conversely, rehabs to places like the Guardian Bldg. and even the Ren Cen have contributed to the city’s developmental progress as well… so, rehabilitation and restoration means progress as well…

it can be both!!! i think developmental progress gets stymied when people say it’s only one or the other… i say if you’ve got the money to do either or, go ahead and do it… anything to make this city better…

Some buildings simply cannot be restored. Its always a bit sad to see a builing go under the wrecking ball, but many times it is for the best.

I’m worried about national media perception when coming to town for the Super Bowl. While improvements may be obvious to locals, I fear they might not be enough for those already looking to criticize.
