StoryCorps Griot

According to the StoryCorps site, “the griot (pronounced gree-oh) is part of West African tradition. It is a role of honor, designating someone who maintains community tradition and memory through storytelling, music, and dance.” Between now and June 16th African American families are encouraged to participate in this interview process that is facilitated by a professional. The recording is free but in need of funding; therefore, donations are encouraged. This service is part of a large initiative to orally preserve African American history across the country. I spotted the StoryCorps trailer in Campus Martius this past weekend.
